In a recent issue of the ARCHIVES, we read with interest an article1 and its accompanying editorial2 on the relation of physical activity to mortality risk in persons with diabetes. In their article, Gregg et al1(p1440) state that "only 2 studies have examined the association of physical activity with the incidences of disease and death among persons with diabetes"3,4 and that the findings of their study have greater external validity than previous work because they examined "a nationally representative sample that was probably more diverse and had more comorbid conditions typical of diabetic persons."1(p1445) In the editorial, Hu and Manson2(p1397) comment that "only one previous study examined the association between walking and cardiovascular events among diabetic patients."3 The authors are incorrect in their assertions.
