In Reply We are grateful to Trzeciak and Mazzarelli for their comment to our recent research letter1 on the association of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hospital star rating system and patient outcomes. They raise an important issue—whether patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) should be included in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAPHS), which at the moment only includes patient reported experience measures (PREMs). We believe that the answer is unequivocally yes.
