In Reply We thank Dr Rott for his comments and agree with his concluding statement that guidelines have not and should not be determined by observational studies. They can, however, supplement randomized studies by assessing effects on broader, less rigidly specific populations.1

We also concur that our Original Investigation,2 which focused on the effects in selected patients who were adherent to statins for at least 1 year, does thereby limit the generalizibility of our findings.
