Error in Notation in: Association of Impaired Diurnal Blood Pressure Variation With a Subsequent Decline in Glomerular Filtration Rate

Error in Notation. In the article titled “Association of Impaired Diurnal Blood Pressure Variation With a Subsequent Decline in Glomerular Filtration Rate,” by Davidson et al published in the April 24th issue of the ARCHIVES (2006;166:846-852) the notation for nondipping night-day systolic blood pressure (SBP>.90) ratio was erroneously noted as a day-night ratio throughout the text. This notation should have been inverted. Therefore, on page 846, left-hand column, “Methods” subsection of the “Abstract,” the second and third sentences should have read as follows: “Mean day and night SBPs were compared (nighttime SBP−daytime SBP ratio). We defined nondipping as a nighttime SBP−daytime SBP ratio higher than 0.90.” On page 847, left-hand column, “Ambulatory BP Recordings” subsection of the “Methods” section, the last sentence should have read as follows: “We prospectively defined nondipping as a nighttime SBP−daytime SBP ratio higher than 0.90.1” Also on page 847, right-hand column, “Ambulatory BP” subsection of the “Results” section, the first sentence should have read as follows: “Three hundred twenty-two patients met the inclusion criteria, 137 dippers (mean ± SD nighttime SBP−daytime SBP ratio, 0.85 ± 0.04) and 185 nondippers (mean ± SD nighttime SBP−daytime SBP ratio, 0.97 ± 0.06).” On page 849, the second sentence in the asterisk table note to Table 1 should have read as follows: “Propensity score includes all variables in the table except for those variables reflecting diurnal hemodynamic variation (ie, mean daytime systolic BP, mean nighttime systolic BP, and nighttime systolic BP−daytime systolic BP ratio, and nocturnal drop in heart rate), those variables reflecting a decline in renal function, and those variables with fewer than 50 data points.”
