We agree with the insightful remarks by Bruintjes and Krantz on our recent article examining the association between SHS exposure and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk.1 Admittedly, we were perplexed by our results that failed to show a strong and consistent association between measures of lifetime exposure to SHS and CHD risk.1 However, our study is but one among many, and we fully concur that the overall weight of evidence strongly supports a causal link between SHS exposure and CHD risk. That said, we also believe that our data add to the literature on SHS and CHD risk and are informative on several counts.
