Migraine and Heart Rate Variability—Reply

Arch Intern Med. 2007;167(20):2264-2265. doi:10.1001/archinte.167.20.2264-b

We appreciate Perciaccante and colleagues adding another piece to the mechanistic puzzle in suggesting that migraine may be linked not only to brain artery and neuronal dysfunctions but also with systemic dysfunctions that have been associated with risk of CVD. In their study, patients with migraine with aura had lower heart rate variability compared with control persons without migraine. Moreover, another recent cross-sectional study provided evidence that functional properties of peripheral arteries were altered in patients with migraine compared with controls.1
