The reviewer made a note on the previous edition of this book (Archives of Internal Medicine, vol. 57: 239, 1936), and he finds that the comments made then apply pretty well to the present edition. A large amount of interesting material is assembled, and the views of such an authority as Dr. Zondek are of the greatest importance. Some of the comments, however, about the nature of disease are a little confusing, such as the statement (page 131), "It is an axiom of Clinical Pathology that every disease carries within it the germ of recovery." There are many excellent illustrations as well as tables and diagrams and a comprehensive bibliography. This book is full of interest for the postgraduate and for the specialist who wishes to compare his own ideas with those of an outstanding authority.
