Abstract

When the Board of the American Medical Association made the sensible decision to include a subscription to one of its specialty journals with the one for The Journal of the American Medical Association as a benefit of membership in the Association, well over one-fifth of the members chose the Archives of Internal Medicine. The present issue of the Archives will reach more than 40,000 new readers, bringing its circulation to approximately 53,000. If present trends continue, a subscription list of 60,000 is forecast by the end of 1960.

The Editorial Board is not so smug as to consider this concrete expression of interest a blanket endorsement of its editorial policies. Rather, it views the surprising response as a confirmation of its own conviction that the special concerns of Internal Medicine, the most all-inclusive of the specialties, are, with rare exceptions, concerns of the whole medical profession.
