"Steroids" is the most complete and authoritative reference work in its field. It is an expansion and revision of "Natural Products Related to Phenanthrene," the third edition of which was published in 1949. Research on steroids has expanded and progressed with such rapidity that the sections on opium alkaloids and resin acids have been omitted. The literature of the entire steroid field is covered critically up to the beginning of 1959. The book is written to be readily comprehended by the novice and to provide the detailed information sought by the expert. Because of the depth and scope of this monumental work, it cannot give the novice a bird's-eye view of the entire steroid field. This is admirably done by the Klyne's concise "The Chemistry of the Steroids."
