The wealth of information contained in this book should appeal to any doctor interested in remaining reasonably well informed. It represents the work of 32 contributors and is so well edited that the reader can follow through the many dissertations as though they were written by one author. The approach to specific entities starts with a short list of essentials of diagnosis, then proceeds with a paragraph on general considerations, a paragraph on clinical findings, some comments on prevention, a few paragraphs on treatment, and ends with a paragraph on prognosis. One or more references are listed as a guide to further reading.
Views on treatment are conservative. Drugs are listed in generic and brand names and dosages in milligrams or grains or both. Tabulations are used freely. The Appendix includes an outline on unestablished drugs, one on some recently introduced drugs, a glossary of terms used in genetics, a
