In this encyclopedic work on the kidney, almost every conceivable aspect has been covered, including structure, function, the various diseases, and their diagnoses and treatment. This book combines the efforts of 43 contributors into 37 chapters. The first few chapters deal with the ultrastructure of the kidney and renal physiology. There follow chapters on laboratory and diagnostic procedures, then the consequences of renal failure, and a companion chapter on dialysis. The following chapters deal with specific renal disorders and with renal involvement in various systemic disorders.

This book will stand as a classic on the subject comparable to Homer W. Smith's The Kidney: Structure and Function, in Health and Disease. There is little that can be criticized, for the editors have molded the many chapters into a readable volume without sacrificing the style of the individual authors.
