Andrews' text has long been one of the few really important textbooks of dermatology. With the appearance of the fifth edition it will doubtless continue to be so regarded for several more years. The addition of a co-author and new material was combined with sorting and eliminating such that the new version is 128 pages shorter than the last edition—a refreshing departure in new editions. Sixty pages of excellent fine-print index serve 688 text pages, and this unusually high percentage probably constitutes one of the most desirable features of the book, much enhancing its utility as a reference. The new two-column format improves ease of reading. Descriptions of diseases are reasonably terse and, for the most part, satisfactory.

Dermatologists have more than ordinary interest in clinical photography and visual imagery, and are best able to appreciate the anguish that must plague an author who cannot find the photo of the
