Abstract

Scherf and Cohen's monograph is, in the words of the authors, a series of essays on selected arrhythmias pertaining to atrioventricular (A-V) conduction and impulse formation.

There is no attempt to be complete and to attain a balance of the material as a textbook would require. The book is, rather, the very finest achievement of a scholarly presentation of personal views, analysis of large knowledge and facts, clinical and experimental, reflected against the views and data presented by others. The senior author has a unique position in cardiology, both by being a disciple of Wenckebach and through his own valuable contributions in the field of irregular heart action. The historical accounts of the origin of fundamental ideas on the problems under discussion are therefore in good part the result of personal experiences rather than the result of extensive library research alone.
