This book is refreshingly different for a textbook in radiology. The author has assembled an unusually large and clear collection of illustrations that are both reproductions of films and line drawings. The captions on about half of the illustrations are thought-provoking questions requiring the reader to make a decision as to the differential points in the correct diagnosis. The answer is given and a short discussion of the features of the illustration permitting this answer in preference to the alternative. The common pitfalls for misinterpretation are well-presented. This technique and the illustrations serve to lead the reader through the book much like programmed instruction that has recently become popular.
The book is surprisingly thorough on the areas it covers. Though each chapter starts at an elementary level, it moves quickly to more useful signs and findings. It discusses a great deal about fluoroscopy and shows the reader what to do
