The lag between the discovery of knowledge and its wide dissemination, as well as the lag in taking advantage of technical aspects of the presentation of information are inevitable despite conscientious efforts to overcome them. This book prepared by Carroll M. Leevy, Evaluation of Liver Function in Clinical Practice, abounds in many well-selected illustrations, slides, schematic representations, tables, and charts, as well as in the imaginative, if not to say gaudy, representations in color of the ultramicroscopic structure of the liver. It is a good example of how a variety of visual aids enhances the utility of a reference book. While a high artistic level is achieved, the subject material is clear. This book should be widely used and become a popular source book because a large amount of information has been compressed and crystalized by wise selection and by the appropriate use of emphasis.
