If the author of this book would have followed the advice of Cyril Connolly, "the true function of a writer is to produce a masterpiece and that no other task is of any consequence," the book would not have been written, or at least published.
One of the problems confronted by medical books dealing with therapeutics is the occurrence of rapid changes in this area making obsolescence almost inevitable in short periods of time. A rather successful attempt to improve this situation has been the yearly books.
It seems from reviewing this book that some chapters have been recently revised. This is the case in chapter 11 on smallpox. N-methyl-isatin β-thio-semicarbazone in the prophylaxis of smallpox is given a large paragraph, though no details of doses can be found.
