Abstract

This small book preserves the paper and vigorous discussion of an invited group meeting to discuss the title subject. Thirteen papers make up the program. They are divided into sections dealing with the effect of drugs on hepatic transport, conjugation, and biliary secretion, drug reactions in the human liver, and alcohol and the liver. The book contains much less information than the monograph "Hepatoxocity of the Therapeutic Agents" edited by H. E. Ticktin, (Ann NY Acad Sci 104:819-1092, 1963), but is of value because of the preserved free and open discussion. The problem of proper testing for hepatoxicity of agents used in humans is widely discussed. This book will be of intense interest to those responsible for drug testing and toxicology.
