Abstract

Dr. Lampl-de-Groot belongs to a small group of psychoanalysts who served their apprenticeships in Vienna in the 1920's. They entered the Vienna Society when scientific life there was at its height. When this society terminated, they dispersed all over the world to found new analytic institutes elsewhere. She founded the Dutch Analytic Institute.

The title of this book is misleading as it actually covers the contributions of this perceptive psychiatrist between 1927 and 1964. Some papers appear in English for the first time, and a few had never been published before. Unfortunately, they are presented in chronological order and in the original form. In recent years the author has reformulated some of these ideas and deemphasized a few of her earlier concepts.
