It is perhaps understandable that certain medical books are held in especially high regard. For the physician, these are usually comprehensive and authoritative works which present information in such clear and lucid style that they contribute significantly to the understanding and solution of varied prob- lems. If Cecil and Loeb or Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine can be considered the "bibles" of the internist, the same can certainly be said of Friedberg's Diseases of the Heart as far as cardiologists are concerned. The second edition of Dr. Friedberg's book was and still is an excellent text for student and physician alike. The new edition frankly exceeds my expectations and is, in my opinion, a monumental work. Those who have been waiting patiently for this new edition have been amply rewarded.
