Abstract

Dr. Locke indicates in his preface that the purpose of this volume is to present the fundamentals of neurology to medical students and practitioners to facilitate their ability to manage the common neurologic problems seen in the everyday practice of medicine.

The general design of the book is well adapted to this purpose. It is divided into three roughly equal parts devoted to the neurological examination, topographical diagnosis, and common clinical problems. However, the inclusion of too much information coupled with inadequate explanation of essential points detracts considerably from achievement of the goal.

The sections on neurological examination and topographical diagnosis are more interesting than usual due to the presentation of numerous clinical "pearls" most useful to the embryo neurologist. Coverage of important physiologic concepts and anatomical relationships is accurate and succinct; this will serve as a brief, relatively comprehensive review for those who have previously mastered the material.
