In reviewing Dr. Murphy's second edition, it is readily apparent that it has undergone a comprehensive revision, resulting in marked improvement over the first edition. The first chapter, "Physical and Biological Factors Affecting Radiation Therapy," has been expanded. There is more emphasis on higher energy radiation sources. Other radiotherapeutic modalities are discussed, and physical reasons for preference are adequately presented. Inclusion of the moving strip technique and expansion of the discussions on wedge filters and moving beam therapy, although not of general interest, are appropriately incorporated; they are essential in evaluating the radiotherapeutic armamentarium. Inclusion of many useful charts from the British Journal of Radiation, supplement 10, and several of the National Bureau of Standards handbooks contribute to making this a valuable reference source from a radiologic physics standpoint. The latter third of this chapter is devoted to various radiobiological considerations.
