Stuart C. Cullen has recently been elevated from the positions of professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology to the deanship at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, but this has in no way diminished his interest in nor his comprehension of the anesthetic scene. Indeed, he remains a professor within his former department and spends one day each week in clinical anesthesia, for as he himself has said—only half jokingly—the tenure of a medical dean in this country averages something a little over two years; he intends to have an occupation to return to, if and when the time comes. Therefore, he is still eminently qualified to continue to edit the Yearbook of Anesthesia and to abstract the pertinent papers relating to anesthesia from the literature of the previous year (in this instance, latter 1966 and early 1967).
