The editors have produced an attractive well-constructed publication. A one-page preface provides instructive perspective. Elaine F. Kinder presents an account of the Samuel W. Hamilton memorial lecture. Included are a photograph of the 1966 lecturer, Dr. George A. Jervis, and his address, "Some Observations On The Problem of Heredity and Environment in Mental Retardation." An interesting bibliography follows each chapter of presentation. The instructive discussion and useful index helpfully round out the whole.
There is highly practical worth in this compendium which brings together valuable but diverse contributions in its field of special interest; each one is excellent in its kind. It contains in well organized continuity the proceedings of the 56th annual meeting of the American Psychopathological Association, held in New York City, February 1966. As Dr. Seymour S. Kety observes in his thoughtful presidential address, "Intelligence, Biology and Social Responsibility," this meeting concerned itself with that very important
