This book is a three-year study by the scientific committee of the World Federation for Mental Health, which follows a unique interdisciplinary approach. Representatives from the biological and behavioral sciences explore the "influence of early experiences on behavior in middle life on the potentiality for further change." Other discussions are concerned with patterns of normal development, relationships between generations, and the role of the middle-aged person in the political, economic, and cultural life of the community. Chapters are written anonymously by ten distinguished international experts drawn from fields of psychiatry, neurology, psychology, zoology, and ethnology. This is a superb sociopsychological document.
