This tight volume of nearly 300 pages comprises the formal papers in a most timely symposium on this interesting group of compounds. Virtually everyone who has made a significant contribution to the field is represented in one fashion or another. The papers deal in considerable depth with the identification, synthesis, and early studies on the physiological significance of these compounds. Papers are highly technical, of extremely high quality, and uniformly clear and readable. Important information on the absorption of prostaglandins from the human vagina, as well as their metabolic, cardiovascular, and neural actions are summarized. It is unfortunate that the undoubtedly fascinating informal discussions were not also included in the text. This volume is the best summary available of the state of knowledge in this exciting new field.
