The editors of this book on renal hypertension attempt to provide a successor to the now classic compilation of Braun-Menéndez and associates. They have succeeded.
Seventy-six active and distinguished investigators, selected by a committee of the staff of the research division of the Cleveland Clinic, were invited to contribute. Rather than publish submitted manuscripts, the editors and staff undertook the more difficult task of rewriting contributions "to meld them into a homogeneous and critical review." The occasion of the international symposium on renovascular hypertension held at the Cleveland Clinic in October 1966 permitted contributors to meet and undoubtedly facilitated synthesis of this book. Each chapter has its own group of contributors and a section editor. Where contributors are few and there is danger of bias, another contributor has acted as referee. Where investigations have led to divergent opinion, varying viewpoints are reviewed critically and fairly. The presentations are sufficiently
