There is no longer any reason to have to justify the need for abstracts or summaries as an aid in scanning the overwhelming volume of journals and articles published each year. Rather, the problem is to decide with which abstract source the internist should cast his lot. In my opinion, the Yearbook of Medicine remains the standard by which other abstract sources must be judged. The content of this publication is carefully selected by a distinguished editorial board; a welcome addition this year is the section on "Kidney, Water and Electrolytes," edited by Epstein.
In addition to careful selection of articles, the editors enhance the value of the book by their thoughtful editorial comments. This text remains an outstanding investment for even the most frugal and conservative investor.
