The Yearbook of Drug Therapy: 1967-1968 Series is the authoritative product of Mr. Therapy himself, Dr. Harry Beckman. Appropriate articles from the better medical journals available in English are thoroughly digested and explained. Important tables and illustrations are included. Generous footnotes provide a priceless dimension—the vast experience of the author; this facilitates sorting out the reported results of therapy and their relationship to previous clinical and animal studies.
In view of the drug explosion, it is laudable that Beckman emphasizes the more useful, better known agents. For the hurried physician and specialist, the division into specialty chapters and the provision of adequate subject and author indices is an obvious advantage.
Some might prefer more of an outline form of presentation that packs more meat into less space. Effectiveness data are difficult to evaluate at best; proof derived by blind methods with proper controls could be more critically weighed.
