The editors of the second edition of Current Diagnosis have added 174 pages and 24 authors to their imposing production. There are many repeaters among the essayists, but a sufficient proportion of new names appear to maintain variety and vitality. The format of the first edition is preserved; each article is written in crisp prose to include definition of the disease entity, discussion of signs and symptoms, physical findings, and a current review of diagnostic procedures. Some sections are more comprehensive and detailed than others, with brief excursions into physiologic mechanisms. Chapters on cardiac and pulmonary diseases are laced with helpful reproductions of roentgenograms and electrocardiograms.
Once again, the remarkably comprehensive nature of the subject matter, brevity of discussions, and superb index make this a most valuable rapid reference source for the busy practitioner. There is no pretense at depth in pathophysiology or biochemistry; therapy is left for the companion
