This is a remarkable book which every neurologist who can read German should peruse. It deals with the broad area of surgery of the brain and spinal cord in children and young people. The profuse illustrations (1,336) are magnificent, some of the best I have ever seen. Much of the work is on diseases and injuries of skull, brain, and spinal cord; there is considerable attention directed to injuries of spinal nerves. The first chapter is an excellent review of the anatomy and embryology of the brain.
Several authors discuss anatomy, radiology, neuroradiology, pediatric neurology, pediatric psychiatry, stereotaxic examinations, etc. Individual chapters are devoted to study of cerebral arteries, brain scanning, electroencephalography, and general clinical diagnosis.
As the editors say, one of the most important features of this book is discussion of problems related to the development of the brain and spinal cord when they have been diseased or injured.
