Abstract

Do you owe a Christmas gift to your wife's OB-GYN man? Give him this handsome volume, which, opened on his library table at page 240, plates 2 and 3, will add a dash of color, encourage comment, and reduce at least some of his guests to nonconversing, compulsive readers. For between these covers is very rich fare indeed. God knows the American OB-GYN man needs intellectual stimulation, and refreshing intellectual stimulation, and it's here (proof: about 60 of the 80 contributors are from the United Kingdom). The book is catholic and comprehensive: it starts with a model introduction to DNA, and all that, by a Belgian (P. Malpoix-Higgins), and ends with an interesting discussion on the topic of radioactive isotopes by a Japanese (H. Fujimori), who describes some unusual clinical applications.

As with any compendious volume of multiple authorship there are marked differences among the chapters. Some are virtual monographs,
