This is a rather small book (22 original communications and summaries of others) for a rather large sum of money with primary appeal to a rather elite group of specialists. It represents the legible products of the Fifth International Colloquium on Psychopathology of Expression, a 1968 meeting in Los Angeles that also included films, psychodrama, hypnosis, a panel on hippiedom, and a live stage demonstration of expressive movements!
Most of the communications present a narrow focus, such as discussion of the ceramic productions of a schizophrenic patient during a span of 13 years, artistic evidence in support of Jungian archetypes, and suggestion that the sexual molestation of young female children is perhaps psychologically more traumatic than some recent literature might imply. Physician readers will almost certainly be attracted by Fischer's essay entitled "On Creative, Psychotic and Ecstatic States" in which he postulates a continuum of arousal phenomena (presumably related to
