"The bias of this biography is medical" according to the author. Medical biography of an individual is most difficult, especially if the man is subordinated to his field. This is particularly true if the subject is a man of such diverse and unrelated fields of interest as Weir Mitchell. Indeed, while this book is a review of Mitchell's medical experiences, it consists mainly of lengthy portions from his notes and writings; an underlying coherence is not apparent.
A critical review of the man's contributions to modern neurology is lacking. Unfortunately, this book does not fill the need.
