This is a scholarly monograph that represents the happy collaboration of surgeon, pathologist, and internist. The three authors have done a far better job than could have been done by any single author, and this, of course, is the raison d'être of collaboration. The subject is treated in exhausting detail in 20 chapters ranging over incidence, etiological consideration, clinical feature, diagnosis, and therapy, both medical and surgical.
The physician who sees venous disease in his daily practice will not discover any great new information in this book, but, then, it was not the authors' intention to present much new thinking on the subject. The book is essentially a collation of published reports, along with a sprinkling of personal experience. The previous lack of such a collection in the English language literature is reason enough for its appearance.
