The subject for this rheumatology review volume is the immunochemistry and biochemistry of connective tissue and its disease states. Five reviews are presented. These topics are quite diversified and relate to the major theme in varying degrees. The book lacks an introductory preface, which would have been most useful for appreciation of the editor's rationale for topic selection.
The individual sections are generally very thorough and lucid. Each is highly recommended. The topics included are (1) "The Proteinpolysaccharides of Cartilage" by Rosenberg and Schubert; (2) "Development and Physiology of the Lymphoid System" by Cooper, Peterson, and Good; (3) "Formation and Function of Kinins" by Eisen; (4) "Mast Cells and Mast Cell Sensitizing (Homocytotropic) Antibodies" by Bloch and Angevine; and (5) "Aleutian Mink and New Zealand Mice: Models of Viral Induced Connective Tissue Disease" by Norton.
