Abstract

This book follows the first series published in 1966 by the same editor in the Modern Trend Series. Most of the topics chosen in this second series are new; the ones repeated are updated revisions. The book is directed specifically to people working in rheumatology. As in the previous series, the topics vary from clinical aspects of rheumatic diseases to the analysis of basic concepts in pathophysiology, as well as sophisticated investigative techniques.

Most of the contributors are well recognized in their fields. This makes each chapter a learned, thoughtful, and comprehensive review of the subject, modulated by a personal point of view. There are numerous, well selected references.

The opening chapter summarizes the fine structure of normal synovial membrane and the changes observed in rheumatoid arthritis. Facts rather than speculative interpretation make this review basic for further approach to this pleomorphic field. The last statement, nevertheless, regarding the lack
