Abstract

This is a good brief review of common pulmonary disorders that is suitable for medical students, house officers, and paramedical personnel. Most of the common chest problems in the broad and expanding field of pulmonary disease are covered in a concise manner. The 21 short chapters are well organized, and the book is quite readable. The use of boldface chapter headings and italics throughout the text aid the speed reader in his rapid perusal of the written page.

Significant omissions include scant mention of the all-important arterial puncture and nothing on three valuable techniques in lung diagnosis (fiberoptic bronchoscopy, bronchial brushing, and trephine needle biopsy of the lung). Occupational pulmonary disease is discussed only briefly, and there is almost no mention of pulmonary drug reactions.
