In May 1970, a "Research Symposium on Cellular Biology and Toxicity of Anesthetics" was held at the University of Washington under the auspices of the university anesthesiology department and led by B. Raymond Fink. This book is the collection of the edited papers that were presented at that meeting. The subjects were diverse but have been grouped editorially into three categories: excitable membranes, nonexcitable membranes, and cell systems. They cover our basic understanding of the effects of anesthetic agents on membranes and membrane transmission and the effects of anesthetic drugs on cellular metabolism, as well as the effects of the cells on the drugs.
The titles range from a discussion of the role of divalent cations in post junctional receptors to the biotransformation of halothane in man. All cannot be reviewed here. Each chapter is very well done and has an excellent bibliography. This book goes a long way to
