The authors and publishers deserve great credit for making this new version of a standard, well-accepted text even better. In comparing this with the previous (seventh) edition, I find that considerable new material has been added, but the volume is only about 120 pages larger.
Several physical improvements are noted. The illustrations are very good and often appear sharper and brighter than in its predecessor. Title words in various tabular listings are in bold face type, making the tables easier to read.
Some of the new material includes additional discussion on cytogenetics and syndromes associated with chromosome abnormalities. There is a good, concise description of transplant rejection changes. A large proportion of the references are very recent, including many listings for articles between 1968 and 1971.
