Abstract

This remarkable monograph is written by a single author on the subject that has interested him throughout his scientific life and to which he has richly contributed. He gives us his personal views and experiences as an outstanding pathologist and educator. The 1,066 fine illustrations are clearly reproduced and have been enriched by many specimens from the collection of the late Professor Jakob Erdheim, to which the author fell heir.

The unique approach of showing roentgenograms side by side with macerated gross specimens and the histological findings in a single disease entity contributes greatly to the teaching value of this book. Perhaps there is a certain amount of unnecessary repetition, especially in the chapter on rickets and osteomalacia of diverse origino, which are quite similar histologically.
