In the relatively short span of three or four decades, the construction of medical textbooks has moved from single to multiple authorship, from the monograph to the symposium. Current Controversies in Urologic Management takes us one ingenious step further to the debating forum, in which acknowledged experts agreed to differ on 21 topics of current interest in the management of difficult urological problems.

The editor and his associates hail from Texas. They are to be congratulated on the grandeur of this concept and in particular on the thorny topics they have chosen. They have invited two or more internationally famous urologists to express their points of view in each chapter: it is interesting to note that from this welter of controversy there often emerges a surprising measure of agreement.
