In his preface, the author stresses that there are few available text books that attempt to interrelate immunology, immunopathology, and immunity. This book, intended for biology and medical students, health officers, and physicians unfamiliar with recent advances in immunology and immune mechanisms in disease, is organized into three parts. The first deals with basic concepts of immunology, the second with immunopathology, and the third covers the role of immune reactions in providing immunity against infection and cancer.

The first chapters on immunology concern antigenic structure, the function of leukocytes, immune tolerance, antigen-antibody interaction, and the major immunoglobulins and their molecular structure. An outstanding chapter is included on the changes that occur in the reticuloendothelial system secondary to antigenic administration. The illustrations in this section are particularly good.
