Abstract

This paperback volume is intended to acquaint medical students, residents, and general practitioners with modern methods of study and treatment of pulmonary diseases; its publication testifies to a strong demand for a simple and brief text.

Unfortunately, the attempt to delineate the anatomy and physiology of the normal lung in 29 pages and the equally heroic attempt to cover the complete gamut of adult and pediatric respiratory diseases in 182 pages is unsuccessful. The physiologic discussion is too brief and terse for students and practitioners, and the disease descriptions are too sketchy for resident physicians. The unfamiliarity of the author—and the publisher—with roentgenograms is illustrated on p 141 where the same film is reproduced twice with different captions.

The lung in health and disease is too broad for a single author to cover accurately and adequately in 212 pages.
