Electrocardiographic Notebook represents the most recent revision of Ferrer's attempt to "assist the beginner in electrocardiography." Its primary value to medical students lies in the endeavor to correlate basic electrophysiology, electrocardiographic patterns, and clinical disease. At times, however, the clinical and physiologic considerations seem disproportionately emphasized at the expense of recognition and explanation of diagnostic electrocardiographic patterns.

The formal division into written text followed by illustrative figures and tracings does little to expedite its reading. The sections on anomalous atrioventricular conduction and intraventricular conduction defects are quite good. The very brief section on arrhythmias is little aided by the examples, many of which are of poor quality.

The foreward states "It was never meant to be a textbook." As long as the student recognizes this, it could be of some benefit.
