Thomas G. Bowery, PhD (photo, below)... selected to be keynote speaker for the largest scientific gathering of minority biomedical researchers ever held in the United States. More than 900 people attended the Third Annual Xavier University-Minority Biomedical Support Program in New Orleans. Dr Bowery, director of the Division of Research Resources, National Institutes of Health, is shown comparing notes with undergraduate researcher Estelle Blanchet of Xavier University of Louisiana during a break in the three-day conference (co-sponsored by the Division of Research Resources and the university).

Dorothy Brinsfield, MD... to executive associate dean, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta.

Paul A.L. Haber, MD... named assistant chief medical director for extended care, heading a Veterans Administration program for aging patients, including geriatric research.

Frank M. Yatsu, MD... appointed professor and first chairman of the new Department of Neurology, University of Oregon Health Sciences Center, Portland.
