This newly revised second edition of Pathophysiology is a treat. It consists of 36 chapters by 60 distinguished clinician-physiologists from medical universities and other scientific centers throughout the United States and Canada. The text, which is profusely illustrated with excellent figures and tables, is divided into eight major sections dealing with cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, endocrine-metabolic, gastrointestinal, hematological, neuromuscular, and immunological mechanisms. Each of these major sections is subdivided into four to six chapters written by different authors. Ten of these chapters deal with additional mechanisms not covered in the first edition, in atherogenic mechanisms; genetic mechanisms of metabolism; mechanism of bone and joint development and destruction; leukopoiesis; thrombopoiesis; coagulation and fibrinolysis; mechanisms of the fluid interphase; neural control of visceral function; neurohumoral mechanisms; allergic mechanisms; and tumor immunology.
