Abstract

This concise source of information on clinical nutrition is a welcome addition to the list of other good books on the subject. The assessment of nutritional support and enteral alimentation is informative although concise. Total parenteral nutrition is a vital component of modern medicine, and this topic probably deserves more detail than is allotted. The entire subject of "Nutritional Support: Supplemental, Enteral, and Parenteral" is dealt with in only 31 pages. The nutritional aspects of pregnancy and lactation are discussed adequately.

The chapter on obesity is well written. The brief discussion on physiologic and pathophysiologic aspects of obesity is appropriate and helpful. The discussion on weight-reduction diets, including fad diets, and the possible dangers in their use is timely and informative.

The chapter on nutritional aspects of minerals is good, and the section on trace minerals is particularly well written. The book also contains chapters on the nutritional aspects of
