The patient described by Grau and colleagues appears to represent an additional case of streptococcal myositis. This case demonstrates the extremely rapid and fatal course of patients with this disease. The patient involved had minor skin trauma, which was seen in one of the patients that we described. Underlying systemic illnesses, such as Hodgkin's disease, are not usually the accompaniments of streptococcal myositis. Since the pathogenesis is unknown, however, an underlying cellular defect cannot be excluded.
