Abstract

In Reply. —We are pleased that Villagra found our article on training residents to intervene effectively with smokers informative. His data further document our statement that residency training programs do little to promote the skills needed in that area.

Since our article appeared in the May 1988 issue of the Archives, 1 we have had several requests from residency training programs for our counseling training package. These requests indicate that there is indeed a realized need for such programs to be included in residency training. Such training is now an idea whose time has come.
