Informed Consent and the Placement of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Tubes—Reply

Arch Intern Med. 2001;161(20):2505-2506. doi:

We thank Dr Bourne for sharing with us the results of his experience with informed consent prior to the placement of PEG tubes in the United Kingdom. His study lends further support to the contention that our own findings, drawn from a single hospital in the United States, are probably applicable not only to other US hospitals but also to hospitals in other countries. In fact, a majority of the reprint requests for our article have come from physicians in various western European countries.
